These are a few words I thought of a few times.

-
I like to see
hands reach for love
like they never felt the burn
and lips still crack a smile
when the eyes can’t hide the hurt
I like to see
old folks full of laughter
children full of wonder
artists that are inspired
by the first day of summer
I like to see
my mother get excited
and i wish the best for yours
if you ever get a day
to go and sit out by the shore
just watch it crash.
let it remind you
that beauty can be chaos
and with every changing tide
is a chance to start anew.
I like to see the birth of revolutions
and a masterpiece in progress
know that all we'll ever be
is a masterpiece in progress
we're never done.
I follow love like bread crumbs
in hopes the one that left them
found a corner of the world
I’d like to see.
I’d like to see.
-
There I found you
in an unlikely corner
same face
decorated in all new things
surrounded in the unfamiliar
swimming in the beautiful
and still I noticed you
only you
you stood out
like tracks in the fresh snow
who knew that they would lead me here?
like it was all that ever existed
like there was never any distance between us
-
As fast as I breathed you in
you left my lungs again
leaving behind the taste of
the words we left unspoken
-
Lips cracked
Cold. Smoke without odor
They must have kept talking
I lost focus on the words
Pause. Lips smile now
A question?
Im sorry.
Who was I to interrupt ?
Lips without cracks
I missed the moment of the morning
Hard time to focus
Something about her mother
I asked how its going
I caught the last of her response
She said better
She could cry and I’d let her
She could die
and I’d use my 1 lifeline to get her
Brakes. Brakes.Doors open.
Waved goodbye with grey leather
Its like she always knows what it takes
To make the day better
Day 7
-
My soul inches to the ledge
eyes closed
still my fingers find the rails
I squeeze tighter and tighter
like this is what will save me
with courage comes the light let in
I keep my gaze
from looking downward
I notice now a breeze
kiss the moisture of my forehead
now I breathe
this whole time I had forgotten
my grip it hasn’t loosed
beauty is in session
it calls on me to join it
for the first time I notice
the white that’s in my knuckles
I let go
-
It was never destiny
chance brought you near
I chased
you let me find you
through rain and rushing waters
fate was never present
nor did I read the signs
it was only a vivid picture
of the world if you were mine
they’ll say all this was written
in the stars I don’t believe it
because the reason
I’ll never let you go is
I know good when I see it
-
Palms sagging
dripping the morning dew
air is heavier by the minute
skies turn from grey to blue
I pray for breezes
sea shells crushed
it makes for fields of sand
I never heard a silent beach
I’ve never seen a peak ascend
only degrees
never change we’re one season
one amongst the ocean
the water the palm trees
just a fraction of the life around here you’re bound to see
I haven’t seen it. All
but I can tell you Fall, Winter Spring
the summers sun’s invited
kiss your skin still leave a sting
if unprotected
-
Just below the earth
mounds of fresh dirt stack
and fill every crevice
I was hopeless and tight
like a small seed
or rock, pebble
you’re fresh water from the mountain
you made it to me I made no progress
everyday its just the same
for both you and I
and thats ok
you told me mountains carry water to those who need it
and they don’t need a thank you
-
Anger burns
through fields of green
and vast oceans
it doesn’t live among us but in our hearts
we squeeze and crush and break
we bring candles to a lake of gasoline
just to drop it in and bask in the heat it gives us
we know not the damage
for the burn scars only what could’ve been
what would’ve been had we given a little bit of ourselves
to something other than self
to a purpose that was higher than us just being ourselves
and been more healthy
expanded our family to everyone among us
extended a helping hand to even those who shun us
they’ll never see
what you perceive is what you receive
and every good deed offers freedom
from the fear that breeds your anger
and in our purpose we find the keys
the keys to meaning
so I’ll keep breathing
more slowly and deeper than I’m used to
I’ll sit in silence
and smile as emotions cease me and release me
I let it pass through
-
What ancient oceans pressed this earth so flat?
What bones and lost treasure lay beneath the now spent dirt?
What adventures were cut short?
What heroes screamed victory over this now barren land?
The stories we will never know
For now this is the home of modern people
Farmers waiting patient for their seeds to root
Children calling for their father from weathered porches
What evidence will they leave?
What great floods will wash away their brief stays on this forever land?
This we will only know in the final moments
We only hope our children’s children will carry on the memories we clutch so tightly
That they will carry forward the ways in which we are too, great
The ways in which we are also heroes
For the treasure we will leave will not be buried in the sand, but in our hearts and minds
As we can be sure we still carry those treasures of all the kings and queens before us
We are one
-
If I knew what it was
to be a part of you
I wouldn’t have taken up
so much space
just to be seen
just to maybe bump something
that was meant for me
something you will find
is that a reaching hand
aint quite ready to receive
keep your palms together
keep your eyes closed
keep still
just keep still and see
you can never drown the noise
only change how you hear it
bear witness and see
